We also invite you to Democracy School!
Democracy Schools are evening-and-a-day workshops, taught by staff of the Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund (CELDF) that discuss the history of social movements that have led to fundamental changes in our laws. Also, the workshops teach about the current legal structure that has been devised to prevent citizens and municipalities from having the authority to decide what happens in their own communities, and which allows corporate boards of directors to decide for them.
Democracy School also provide information about measures local communities around the United States are taking to protect themselves in the face of our current, unjust structure of laws.
In our region, 175 people have gone to Democracy School or its equivalent in the last two years. The Coal-Free Bellingham campaign has arisen from their collective energy and inspiration.
The next Democracy School in Bellingham will take place on February 3 and 4.
More are being planned. For more information about the Democracy Schools, please email [email protected]
